 Campus Safety Division

The mission of the Campus Safety Division is to advance the academic achievement and enrichment experience of an education by providing a safe and secure environment for the students and staff we serve.

The men and women who comprise the Campus Safety Division take homage in recognizing the significant influences our youth are expected to contribute to its society through academic excellence and achievement.  The environment in which students interact must be free from situations that detract and deter their ability to lead productive lives.  Toward that end, Metro OPS does not waiver in its commitment to ensuring that the universal personal safety and security of all stakeholders is not compromised.  The foundation of our organizational values is built on humility, respect, collaboration, inclusiveness and result oriented.

Employees of the Metro OPS Campus Safety Division appreciate the opportunity to participate in mandated service programs that serve to uplift future generations by centering our actions on the following:

Patrolling in vehicles, on foot, Public Safety Officers assigned to patrol services ensure the safety of staff and students by keeping a watchful eye on all of the school campuses and facilities we service. They also make sure that the schools are secure and are protected against entry by unauthorized persons, as wells as from graffiti, vandalism and other property crimes. Patrol officers respond to calls for service, investigate crimes and suspicious circumstances, assist the community, make arrests and issue citations, file reports and ensure safe traffic flow on and around school grounds. Working in concert with local law enforcement, officers from patrol services provide protection for school campuses and facilities 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.

School Resource Officers (SRO)

School Resource Officers are specially trained officers who are assigned full time to each school campus. In addition to handling normal calls for service on their assigned campus, the S.R.O.'s also develop close working relationships with the school’s students, staff and teachers, devoting additional time towards the development of the students. S.R.O.’s serve as role models to students and they take on an added teaching and counseling role for the student body. Because they work with the school’s staff and students day-in and day-out, they become an integral part of the campus they serve.

Metropolitan Office of Public Safety Campus Safety Division (Metro OPS CSD) safe school learning environment plan is to produce an orderly and purposeful place where students and staff are free to learn and teach without the threat of physical and psychological harm.
